Wide Open Spaces lyrics

Angel Called

Angel Called tonight

Called me on the telephone

Caught me on the wires of the soul

Out on the highway all alone

Angel Called tonight

Seemed to me he needed a friend

So I tried to be there cuz I believe

There could be love

When I think of him

Once I saw a meteor

Fall to earth not very far

From where I stood in unprepared amazement

But it was not as bright

As the light that you bring me

It was not as bright

As the love

Angel Called tonight

Sent me to the Twilight Zone

Left a message blazing cross the sky

Out on the highway all alone

He's looking my way through the phone

And so I told him

Ah, but he should have known

The Nights of Eden

If I had a chance I surely would

Go back to the days of pure romance

I remember Eden

Just one more dance if I only could

But I cannot go and so I sing

Of the Nights of Eden

There was but one who knew my name

It was a song of joy that I remember singing

We were so young

And we were playing with a flame

And we set fire to the skies

In the Nights of Eden

I'm on the outside now but I remember Eden

I've not forgotten how the taste of life

Was sweeter than we ever

Could have dreamed then

Oh we never did imagine

I heard it said the other day

There was a rumor

That the garden gate was open

He was alone and coming out to play

And it was time to say the words

That were left unspoken

I'm on the outside now... (chorus)

Repeat first verse

Orion

Red lights glow

Out of evening windows

Soft against the snow

I am walking

Talking to the wind in whispered voices

In oaken leaves

The winter breeze rejoices

Just the talk of vagabonds and bums

Along the tracks behind the houses

The sound of howling comes

At the moon

From every yard in town

From every kenneled hound

That wants to track us down

Walking on the waters now

Trapped beneath the snow

Soon in the spring how they're gonna shimmer

How they will dance and they will flow

Funny how at night this deep frozen land

Looks like the desert

Looks like the night on silent sand

Stars above the desert burning clear

But with a light as cold as winter

As this blue evening here

And the fires

Shining through those windows

Casting taunting shadows

Are every bit as near

As the desert sun

To this cold lonely one

So far away so near

Orion my dear friend now

With your arrow and your bow

Shoot for me a dream

And send it falling softly through the snow

Into my hands

A dream of summer friends

Of nights on desert sands

Where day and evening blends

Into a purple glow

Soft against the snow

For the Ironwood

When I was a child I dreamed of a great land

Fearlessly wild and taken by no man

Green as a long summer's day

I never understood when they told me don't believe it

You'll never get it back that way

So I dreamed and I played

I watched the trees fall around me

Those mean city ways

They never ceased to astound me

'Oh it's allright' they'd say

'Didn't need that old thing anyway'

But when I was alone an ironwood tree consoled me

A few miles from home strong branches would hold me

If I'd ever known it was true what they told me

My friend would fall someday

I'd go to the hills, the crowd overwhelmed me

I'd go to be still, the loudness repelled me

What could the ironwood say?

Listen to the wind, c'mon girl climb in

You just got to be strong and pray

So I dreamed and I prayed, and I made my escape plan

A long string of days never taken by no man

'Oh it's allright' I'd say, 'didn't need no old man anyway'

Oh but I was afraid

I started growing my own armor

The ironwood swayed

I couldn't stay and watch them harm her

So I ran away to a place where no foreman or farmer

Would ever lay claim

Go to the hills, the trees they won't blame you

Go to the sea and the sky will reclaim you

Throw all your armor away

Pick it up again if you really need it

When you go back someday

Purple & Green

Once in a dream of a mountain slope

Purple & Green the colors

That spoke up and stopped me

Heaven only knows the world before me I see

Up in the wind where the hawks will pass

Fireweed and the sunshine

Through the foxtail grass

Heaven only knows how long

The daylight will last

Purple & Green

He stood high on the mountain

Purple & Green

She just lay where she lay

Proud as a king in a purple robe

Or bowed to the green

Like monkshood on a mossy road

Heaven knows how far that road's gonna go

Some gonna make sure you know their name

Some disappear just as quiet as flowers

The way that they came

Heaven knows we all got to go just the same

Purple & Green

She stood high on the mountain

Purple & Green

He just lay where she lay

Waiting patiently there by a dying stream

Days of magic solitary flying dreams

Heaven only knows the world before me I see

E/Motion

Bitter sweet like heather

Staring out across a mossy green sea

Stormy weather between you and me

Set it free, let it be

Hush upon the ocean

Whisper soft against a mist of rain

Pure devotion

And things will never be the same

Let it change, let it rain

The nature of emotion is motion

The nature of emotion is change

The nature of emotion is motion

But always I love you

Breathing in, breathing out

Feeling like the ocean in motion constantly

Oh let it be

Set it free

Between you and me

The nature of emotion is motion

The nature of emotion is change

The nature of emotion is motion

But always I love you

Bittersweet like heather

Staring out across the mossy green sea

We are together

No matter what that means

Set it free

Between you and me

The Lion Song

You set the world in motion once again

I thought I heard the ocean roaring in your hand

You uncaged the lion pacing restless in me

I gave up all of my newfound security

For the singing of a lark who is just like me

Cuz he swears he's gonna fly away and always be free

Yeh, just fly away and leave me in the dark

But at the break of day the arrow found its mark

And don't you worry 'bout

What's happening tomorrow or yesterday

I'm sick of living in another time anyway

If you don't mind I'll be right here in your arms

For as long as you'll stay

It happened when I was only a little child

I heard the laughing of the loon out in the night so wild

And out across the lake the footprints

Left behind by the moon

And she brought me on her hunt  when the sun went down

And she taught me how to run  like one of her hounds

And she warned me of the lark singing in my room

She said he's gonna fly away... (chorus)

You set the world in motion inside of me

You set the girl and the woman and the lion free

You let me hear the wilderness calling for me

You let me hear the wilderness singing in me

You let me hear the wilderness laughing at me

The Moonisblooming

The moon is blooming in a room

Where flowers are forbidden

Blossoms smouldering a jasmine perfume

I must keep them hidden, hidden

Something's growing where it oughtn't to grow

A red rose in prison

Someone's going where they oughtn't to go

Imminent decisions, decisions

Try and understand

That's just the way these things go

Try and take a stand tell that man no

Try and take a stand tell that man no

Just say no, no

We were speaking of souls seeking, finding

We were thinking things out of our control

Forgetting, reminding, reminding

The moon is blooming in a room

Tunnels to chambers

Jungle drumming a persuasive native tune

Calling you to dangers, oh the dangers

Try and understand

That's just the way these things go

Try and take a stand tell that man no

Try and take a stand tell that man no

Just say no, no

The Fault Line

I got my beads on

I'm calling from San Francisco

In these neo-revolutionary times

Out here on The Fault Line

When Leonid died

Oh will you or won't you?

And do you or don't you need me?

I got nothing to offer but my name

Out here on The Fault Line

Nothing has changed

Nothing's changed

Nothing's changed

Nothing's changed

Silver Companion

Fall away til the rockets lose you

In your pocket a feeling full of cloud

Out here on The Fault Line

It's a worried crowd

And do you or don't you?

And will you or won't you see me?

I got nothing to offer but my shame

Out here on The Fault Line

There's no one to blame

Marisol

Marisol, I hardly even knew you

Marisol, but I loved you just the same

Marisol, you are sitting right above me

When I call your name

Marisol, Marisol

Marisol, I know you had to leave us

Marisol, I never will know why

Marisol, do you know how it grieves us

To bid you goodbye?

Marisol, Marisol

We are changed into the grass of springtime

Yes we are changed but we remain

Our hearts will grow green again

And they will open their petals

And lift up their songs

Marisol, the sun upon the waters

Marisol, this beauty will remain

Marisol, you are heaven's daughter

And you are home again

Marisol, Marisol

White Lies

by Dan Connor 1992

Down through the ages the list is long

You don't have to read the pages to see what's going on

Two nations, black and white

The separation starts with the Bill of Rights

Telling White Lies---we the people

White Lies---created equal

White Lies--now we've seen it with our own eyes

We saw the beating, we saw it

We saw the man fall, we saw it

Then we heard the jury say

That's not what you saw

Outrageous, outrageous!  This is 1992!

Those people still have not rights

We still pretend that they do

With our White Lies---we the people

White Lies---created equal

White Lies--now we've seen it, now we've seen it

Truth is marching on (it's not over)

The truth is marching on...

The future is now playing

It's just been released

Without truth there's no justice

And without justice no peace

We saw the fire, the rage and the crying

And they will keep on raging if we keep on denying

Telling White Lies---we the people

White Lies---created equal, White Lies...

But maybe we'd be surprised if we admit the White Lies

Maybe we'd be surprised if we admit the White Lies
